In early 2021, I was invited to join the worship band at Parkview Church of the Nazarene in Kettering, Ohio as a drummer. Although I had not previously played in a worship setting, I welcomed the opportunity to broaden my musical experience and develop new skills.
During my time with the team, I performed a wide variety of worship music, including traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs from artists such as Hillsong, seasonal selections for holidays, and Southern Gospel standards. Each set provided a chance to adapt to different styles and playing dynamics.
One of the most impactful aspects of the experience was learning to perform with an in-ear track system. This helped me improve my timing, lock in with the rest of the band, and contribute to a tighter, more polished sound. The experience challenged me to grow as both a drummer and a collaborator in a live performance context.
