In early 2021, my friend John Cloud (Instagram: @johncloudart), a graphic design student in the final semester of his program, approached me with an idea for his capstone project: to create a full artist branding package. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to release my first EP and establish a visual identity to match. After some reflection, I chose Patternman as my artist name—an old nickname that also spoke to my love for building musical and conceptual patterns.
The resulting project was The Flower That Blooms, a deeply personal EP written, recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely by me. The songs reflect my experiences between 2019 and 2021, including the loss of a close family member, the emotional weight of the pandemic, and a broader search for direction during uncertain times.
John and I worked closely to align the visual identity with the music’s tone. He created branding mockups and cover art that captured the EP’s themes of fragility, growth, and reflection. His visuals helped elevate the project from a personal expression to a cohesive artistic statement.
Releasing The Flower That Blooms was both cathartic and creatively energizing. It marked the beginning of my journey as Patternman and laid the foundation for future work that continues to blend music, design, and storytelling.
